The wide variety of treats can be grouped in to several categories. Each category has its own specific process and equipment requirements to provide a safe, shelf-stable product for the pet.
Once formed, baking, drying and cooling parameters must be set so that they are suitable for both of the materials in the product to avoid product damage and ensure appropriate product texture, appearance and flavor. This is accomplished through the application of thermal processes involving heat and mass transfer for a specific amount of time to bring about desired physical and chemical changes to the pet treat.
